2006 NCAA Women’s College World Series

2006 held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on June 1-6.

Champion – Arizona Wildcats (54-11)
Runner Up – Northwestern Wildcats (50-15)

The University of Arizona Softball program claimed its eighth NCAA championship title in Program history and finished a 50-14-1 season by taking two games out of three from Tennessee at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City in May of 2007.

The road to the title was not easy, as the Wildcats played five elimination games and eight total contests over the course of seven days. The U of A rode the arm of pitcher Taryne Mowatt, who was named the Women’s College World Series Most Outstanding Player, for a record 60 innings.

Arizona used a huge fifth inning in the final game to secure their place in history. The Wildcats beat Tennessee that night 5-0. The Cats had dropped the opening game to the Vols earlier in the week and then stormed back with a 1-0 victory in the second game.

Senior Outfielder Caitlin Lowe Struck her third of four hits to lead off the fifth inning, starting the game-winning rally.

Freshman K’Lee Arrendondo followed with a single and Tennessee intentionally walked senior Kristie Fox to load the bases.

Sophomore third baseman Jenae Leles singled the first pitch up the middle to drive in two runs. That brought up senior second baseman Chelsie Mesa, who drilled a home run to right field to give the Wildcats a huge Cushion.
